Delish: A Handwritten Font That Adds Personality to Digital Design

Testing Delish in a Real Web Layout

As a web designer, I’m always on the lookout for fonts that can elevate a digital brand without sacrificing usability. Recently, I had the chance to test Delish—a fun handwritten font with a dry brush texture and rough details—on a small business website redesign. The project involved creating a landing page for a local artisan bakery, and I wanted to infuse warmth and personality into the design without compromising readability.

I dropped Delish into the hero section as the main headline font. The first thing I noticed was how it immediately brought a sense of authenticity and charm to the page. The texture mimics real brush strokes, and the subtle roughness gives it a handcrafted feel that’s perfect for lifestyle, wellness, and creative brands.

Delish in Use: Web Design Applications

Delish shines brightest when used for short, impactful text on the web. I found it particularly effective in the following areas:

Readability and Responsiveness

One of the biggest concerns when using decorative fonts like Delish is readability—especially on mobile devices. After testing it across multiple screen sizes, I found that Delish works best when:

  1. Used at larger sizes (at least 36px for headers).
  2. Paired with a clean sans serif like Montserrat or Lato for body text.
  3. Given enough contrast against the background, especially when placed over images.
  4. Avoided in long paragraphs or navigation menus where clarity is key.

On mobile, I made sure to increase the font size slightly and simplify the layout around it to keep the visual hierarchy strong. The result was a design that felt both modern and personable, without sacrificing usability.

Font Pairing and Digital Branding

Delish pairs beautifully with minimalist fonts, which helps balance its expressive texture. I used it alongside a clean sans serif for a boutique online store, and the contrast made the brand feel both playful and professional. For a coaching website, I paired it with a soft serif font to create a warm, inviting feel that resonated with the target audience.

If you’re using Delish for a brand identity or digital product, consider how it aligns with your color palette and imagery. Because of its textured brush style, it works best with organic, earthy tones or soft pastels. Avoid high-contrast neon or metallic themes, which can clash with its handmade aesthetic.

Technical Considerations for Web Designers

Before using Delish in a live project, make sure to check the following:

Delish performed well in all these areas, and I appreciated that the font package included multiple weights and alternate characters, giving me flexibility in design execution.

When Not to Use Delish

While Delish is a beautiful font, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s best suited for display use rather than long-form content. I wouldn’t recommend it for:

Its decorative nature can make it difficult to read in small sizes or dense blocks of text. Stick to using it for titles, logos, and accent text to get the most out of its charm without compromising usability.
