Wulantika: A Brushed Handwritten Font That Elevates Brand Design

Starting with a Blank Canvas

It was a quiet morning and I was staring at a blank brand board for a new client — a cozy little café tucked into a corner of the city. The brief was simple: create a warm, inviting brand identity that feels personal and handcrafted. I knew right away that typography would play a huge role in shaping that tone. After a few test runs with other script fonts, I found myself downloading Wulantika, curious to see how its thick, brushed letterforms might translate into real-world design work.

First Impressions: What Makes Wulantika Stand Out

Wulantika is a bold, brushed handwritten font that immediately caught my eye with its expressive strokes and organic texture. It’s not overly formal or refined — instead, it has a relaxed, slightly imperfect charm that feels authentic. The thick lettering gives it a strong presence, while the brush-style texture adds a handmade touch that’s perfect for brands looking to connect with their audience on a more personal level.

Logo Design: A Strong First Impression

For the café’s logo, I started with a basic layout — a circular emblem with a coffee cup icon and the brand name wrapped around it. I tested a few different fonts, but none of them gave me that “it” factor. When I dropped in Wulantika for the brand name, everything clicked. The font’s weight gave the logo a confident presence, while the brush texture made it feel like it was hand-painted rather than digitally designed. It added a sense of craftsmanship that perfectly matched the café’s values.

Brand Identity: More Than Just a Logo

Once the logo was approved, I moved into the broader brand identity system. Wulantika was ideal for headlines and key brand elements like the tagline, menu headers, and social media post titles. I found that it worked best when used sparingly — as a display font rather than for long paragraphs. Its strong character made it perfect for grabbing attention, but I knew readability would suffer if used in body text.

Packaging Design: Bringing the Brand to Life

The client wanted custom packaging — paper cups, takeout bags, and small product labels for baked goods. I knew that Wulantika’s thick strokes would translate well to printed materials, especially when used at a decent size. On the coffee cup sleeve, I used Wulantika for the café’s name in a bold color that contrasted with the natural brown of the paper. The texture of the font gave it a tactile feel even before the customer touched it.

Printed Marketing Materials: Consistency is Key

For printed flyers and in-store posters, I used Wulantika in headlines and key callouts. I paired it with a clean sans serif font for body text, which helped maintain visual balance and readability. The contrast between the two typefaces emphasized the brand’s personality — warm and creative, but still professional and approachable. This pairing also made the design feel intentional, rather than just decorative.

Web and Social Media: Digital Presence with Personality

When designing the homepage hero section, I wanted the headline to feel inviting and bold. Wulantika was perfect for that. I made sure to test the font across different screen sizes and browsers to ensure legibility. I also used it in key Instagram story templates — especially for quote posts and event announcements. In those cases, the font’s brush texture gave the visuals a handmade quality that stood out in a crowded feed.

Font Pairing: Finding the Right Balance

One of the most important aspects of using Wulantika in a brand system is knowing how to pair it with other fonts. Because of its strong personality, I always used it alongside something neutral — usually a modern sans serif or a clean serif font. For example, pairing Wulantika with a light-weight sans serif like Montserrat or Lato created a nice visual rhythm without overwhelming the design. The contrast also helped establish a clear visual hierarchy.

Testing Before Committing

Before finalizing the brand system, I made sure to test Wulantika across multiple applications. I created mockups for packaging, business cards, and digital templates to see how the font held up in different contexts. I also checked for any potential issues with character spacing or ligatures — Wulantika includes a few stylistic alternates which added nice variation without disrupting consistency. Testing early helped me avoid last-minute surprises and ensured the font would work well for both print and digital use.

What to Look for When Using Wulantika

Final Thoughts: A Font That Feels Like a Design Partner

By the end of the project, Wulantika had become a key part of the café’s visual identity. From the logo to packaging, from digital assets to printed materials, it consistently delivered a sense of warmth and authenticity. It’s not a font you’d use for every project — but when the brief calls for something expressive, handcrafted, and confident, Wulantika is an excellent choice. Whether you’re working on a brand identity, editorial design, or packaging layout, this brushed handwritten font has the potential to elevate your creative work and leave a lasting impression.
